Zaltbommel, July 7, 2020 – For years, GD-iTS’s warehouse in Zaltbommel, The Netherlands, has stored and transhipped large amounts of solar panels. Now, for the first time, these panels can also be found ON the roof. Spring 2020, GD-iTS has assigned KiesZon to install over 3,000 solar panels on the warehouse that is used by Van Doesburg Transport. These panels, and the ones that are stored in the warehouse, are produced by Canadian Solar, one of the world’s largest solar energy companies GD-iTS has worked with for years. A partnership that now leads to a yearly production of about 1,000,000 kWh.

GD-iTS, initiator of the solar power project, is a very active player in the field of corporate social responsibility. Its offices and warehouse were built with the environment in mind, the layout of the company premises aims at using energy efficiently and all trucks comply with the latest CO2 reduction standards. Gijs van Doesburg, Director and owner of GD-iTS (GD-iTS Warehousing BV, GD-iTS Forwarding BV, G. van Doesburg Int. For the implementation of the solar power project GD-iTS concluded a partnership agreement with KiesZon, located in Rosmalen. For over ten years this company has developed large-scale solar projects for logistics services companies such as Van Doesburg. Erik Snijders, general manager of KiesZon, is very happy with this new partnership and considers the logistics industry to be one of the leaders in the field of sustainability. “At KiesZon we see that an increasing number of logistics services companies and logistics real estate developers very consciously choose to use their roofs to generate solar power. That’s not so much a coincidence, as it is a result of the logistics industry’s leading role in the field of sustainability. GD-iTS was aware of the opportunities for the unused square meters on its roof too. That space has now been fully used.”

Canadian Solar, that has worked with GD-iTS for years for the storage and transhipment of solar panels, was established in 2001 and is now one of the world’s largest solar energy companies. Leading producer of solar panels and supplier of solar energy solutions, it has a geographically diversified pipeline of energy projects at a utility level in different development stages. Over the last 19 years, Canadian Solar has delivered successfully more than  43 GW of high-level modules to customers over 160 countries worldwide. GD-iTS being one of them.

In the 987 kWp project 3,000 KuPower CS3K-MS high efficiency 120-cell monocrystalline PERC modules from Canadian Solar have been installed. The connection of the solar panel roof in Zaltbommel to the power grid took place this month. At a yearly basis it will provide almost 1,000 MWh. An amount of solar energy that could provide electricity to more than 300 average households. As far as the reduction of CO2 emissions is concerned, every year the solar panels will provide a reduction of 500,000 kgs of CO2.
